Strategy Officer Role Description


Role title: Strategy Officer
Responsible for: Develop and implement the Party’s political strategy: analysing issues, voter opinions, demographic trends and other factors the party should take into account in planning its campaigning and communications.
Time commitment: Approximately 8 hours per week, but could be varied.

Your responsibilities would be as follows:
● To work with the communications, campaigns and elections teams to develop political strategy, including the core narrative, themes, straplines, scripts and key messages.
● Work closely with the National Council to develop and implement the Party’s strategic plans.
● Carry out political research to inform decision-making around political strategy, policy focus, targeting, messaging and media strategy.
● Establish and manage processes for monitoring and evaluating the political and policy initiatives of other parties to assess their impact on the party’s strategy and campaigning.
● Work with the Campaigns Officer to develop medium to long-term campaign plans to achieve the party’s strategic goals.
● Develop a narrative to support the party’s strategy, with appropriate framing to inform messaging and narrative arcs to shape campaigning.
● Working with the Communications Officer produce and regularly update core strategic content based on the party’s narrative, including straplines, campaign themes, key messages, scripts and guides on tone of voice and language.
● Ensure message consistency and discipline by regularly checking all communications, campaign and speech content and playing a role in the sign off process.
● Monitor the progress and effectiveness of strategy implementation and make
recommendations for any changes.

Essential
● Highly organised and able to manage several projects at a time.
● Decision-making skills to ensure quick responses to requests from internal and external stakeholders.
● Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
● Knowledge and understanding of how strategic management impacts and influences operational management.
● A thorough knowledge of all types of media nationally and regionally.
● Knowledge and understanding of political research.
● Good networking skills.

Desirable
● Expertise in devising and implementing political strategies and campaigns.
● Experience of working in a political environment.
● Experience of working in communications and/or the media.
